Pharmacomechanical Thrombolysis of Extensive Thrombus in the Inferior Vena Cava and Lower Extremities
The patient is a 61-year-old male with a history of prostate cancer, treated with prostatectomy and adjunctive radiation therapy in 2004. In the days following his prostatectomy, the patient developed bilateral deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), which was treated with an inferior vena cava (IVC) filter and 6 months of warfarin anticoagulation. The patient reported an otherwise uneventful recovery.
In April 2011, the patient presented with a 2-week history of bilateral radicular thigh pain and leg swelling shortly following 24 cumulative hours of airplane travel.

Celect IVC filter
The Celect IVC Filter works great for short-term placement with a 2-4 week removal time. Although fairly easy to deploy and retrieve, it can tilt within the IVC after filter deployment.
